IN SUPPORT OF TRADITION - PLEASE READ Posted 21MAR 2008 As someone who spent his formative years in pipe bands as a tenor and bass drummer, this issue hits very close to my heart. Though snare has been my primary discipline since the dissolve of my junior band back in 1990, I still love the midsection and to this day still teach tenor and bass drumming full-time among my regular private students and student corps around the country. I was so proud of my own band's bass drummer - Mike Cole - when in 1998 he and his Syncopaths (as he called them) won the Grade 2 World Bass Section championship. To intimate that this type of prize is no longer important within the realm of pipe bands is quite blind - especially within the modern scene where a quality midsection really can make or break a band! Please check out Scott Currie's Bring Back OUR Best Bass Section Awards page and support the activity to reinstate this important recognition and to uphold the tradition of prizegiving for championship midsections. Yours sincerely, Andrew Hoinacki Founder and Principal
